KNUST Clash: No student lost his memory as claims suggest – PRO

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kwame Yeboah, has dismissed claims that one of the students who was arrested and brutalised by the university’s security officers, has lost his memory.

Speaking on Accra-based Starr FM’s morning star show, the PRO said all of the students who were arrested on Friday during a Jamboree session in the school have been released and are doing well.

“A third-year student of the university who was believed to be part of the arrest and sustained serious head and ear injuries and was speculated to have lost his memory is doing fine. I have met and spoken to the student and there is no sign of memory loss as was going around,” he said.

“Some of these students were throwing stones and it’s likely the boy got hit by one of these stones and not by the securities,” he claimed.

As to why the request of the students was declined, Kwame Yeboah explained that it was not only the Katanga hall whose request was declined but the University and Continental Halls respectively.

“I believe this decision was taken in view of several negative issues encountered recently with respect to “morale sessions” in the halls. The authorities saw the sessions as being likely to bring about disorder and since the students went ahead to do it, it was seen as a going against the order hence, it was necessary the security comes in to manage the situation,” he explained.
